About the Hall of Fame
The Smart Growth Hall of Fame Report was conceived to bring light to responsible
growth management and smart growth projects in Colorado. With a continuous
increase in population that is projected to continue for at least the next
20 years and a highly profitable housing market, land in Colorado is under
extreme development pressure. In the face of this pressure, communities in
this year's Hall of Fame have taken the initiative to confront these conditions
and manipulate them to work for a better community. Responsible or smart growth
decisions are defined as processes, plans and development projects that contain
or alleviate the negative effects of sprawling development and that generally
enhance the quality of life of a community.
About the Colorado Sprawl Action Center
The Colorado Sprawl Action Center was formally started in June 1999, picking
up from what was formerly called the Colorado Network to Stop Sprawl. Like
it's predecessor, the Colorado Sprawl Action Center works to improve the development
process by providing citizens with the organizational tools and information
they need to be long-term advocates for responsible development in their respective
communities. It is our belief there is no substitute for an educated and activate
local citizenry. The crucial element to solving the problems related to sprawl
is the creation of an effective local base of support for land use reform.
About Environment Colorado
We all want clean air, clean water and open spaces. But it takes independent
research and tough-minded advocacy to win concrete results for our environment,
especially when powerful interests stand in the way of environmental progress.
That's the idea behind Environment Colorado. We focus exclusively on protecting
Colorado's air, water and open spaces. We speak out and take action at the
local, state and national levels to improve the quality of our environment
and our lives.
